Armistead Sapp
Armistead Sapp is a brother with Sapp Brothers, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based family office focused on technology, innovation, and mission-driven ventures.
He is also a Technical Project Manager for WeatherExtreme Ltd, where he helps manage projects in advanced research and development involving weather intelligence, atmospheric data, forecasting, simulation, and decision-support technologies. His current work includes supporting federally sponsored research programs and developing secure, data-intensive systems for operational use in extreme-weather environments.
Sapp retired from SAS Institute in 2016 as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. During nearly 30 years at SAS, he held a variety of senior leadership roles spanning product development, product management, product marketing, database marketing, and corporate technology strategy. He also served as President of SouthPeak Interactive, a SAS-founded computer-gaming company that developed and published dozens of titles before its spinoff in 2000.
Before joining SAS, Sapp worked in both software and hardware development at IBM during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Throughout his career, he has combined technical leadership, product strategy, research, and organizational development to bring complex technologies from concept to operational deployment.
Sapp is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and co-author of Implement, Improve and Expand Your Statewide Longitudinal Data System: Creating a Culture of Data in Education.
